Beach Camping

During Memorial Day weekend, I wanted to take the kids on a trip. Will was still not feeling well and with twins you never get a break and there never is downtime. I let him catch up on sleep and took the kids to Olympic National Park for three nights. We wanted to semi-repeat the trip we took a few years ago, but I wanted to include some new fun and adventure.

We spent the first night on Third beach. Third beach is beautiful, you stay directly on the beach (hoping you are above high tide) and when low tide comes there is an abundance of tidal pools.

The next day we hiked to Toleak Point and back. The hike include quite a few up and down ladders and ropes. I didn’t time the tides right and so we had one death defying hike on a landslide as well, where Isabel lost her footing and slide 20′ down the hill. Luckily I was paralleling them below their position for just that reason (while rocks came tumbling from each of their steps). I caught Isabel, but it’s a hike she never wants to repeat.

The second day we hiked out and to repeat our original trip we hiked the Hoh River Trail to Tom Creek and camped for a night. Noah didn’t want to wear hiking shoes and amazingly hiked the entire trail (6 miles round-trip) in flip flops!
